Wardlow came into being around 1919 when the railroad was extended south to the Red Deer River. It never grew beyond the hamlet stage even when oil and gas exploration crews moved in during the 1950s and swelled the population from 20 to twice that many. Since then the population has declined until its only remaining business is its grain elevator. One will find Wardlow interesting for along the Red Deer River in this vicinity are the ruins of a couple of old forts and trading posts. H.B. Chenoweth
