NAME: LaForme Creek COUNTY: n/a ROADS: 2WD GRID: 1 CLIMATE: mild summer, cold and very snowy winter BEST TIME TO VISIT: late summer |
COMMENTS:
Access to this ghost town is very difficult. A logging road takes you to a viewpoint across the valley, but to get to the townsite you must hike down a steep slope, cross a raging glacial stream (dangerous), and then bushwack back up the steep slope to the town. Alternately you can hike an old overgrown trail for 6 kilometres to the camp. REMAINS: half a dozen houses and foundations |
Deposits of silver lead and zinc were discovered in this valley north of Revelstoke in the 1920s. The Laforme Creek mining camp was established in the early 1950s, and ore was shipped sporadically until 1960. Submitted by: Jim Wright |
