Sandy Point once was a town on a near by island in the Bay St. George area, on the west coast of Newfoundland. It governed a population of nearly 75 or more families. Over the years, it's amazing how a full size town became a ghost town. Today, visitors can visit the island of Sandy Point in the summer time by taking one of the Sandy Point tours which explains the history of the island and the town. Stories are still told, that in the 1800's, piracy use to be high in the Bay St. George area and that today, an annual treasure hunt is carried out as a festive day while attending the island during the summer time.
