Although the original town of Aultsville lies beneath the waters of the St. Lawrence Seaway that opened in 1958, many of its original buildings were relocated to the towns of Ingleside or to Long Sault, or to the historical park at Upper Canada Village. The town was first known as Charlesville in 1787. It had a cheese factory, a brick and pottery works, a sash and window factory, and stores to support a population of 400 people at its peak in 1880.
