Biscotasing, otherwise known as “Bisco,” had two lives. The first began in 1880 as a raucous CPR construction town complete with saloons, brothels, and whatever else was necessary to make it a boisterous and disorderly town. When the osmosis began is uncertain, but gradually the saloons and brothels were replaced by churches, a school, a general store, and a population of more than five hundred residents and was one of the largest towns along the Canadian Pacific Railway. The beginning of World War II saw the town as a partial ghost town. The mill had closed and most of the people had moved away. Today, however, the town awakens during the summer for cottagers and hunters. Submitted by: Henry Chenoweth |
