One of the world’s richest silver mines was discovered in 1908 that gave rise to a population of 10,000 almost overnight. Homes, stores, hotels, boarding houses, and other buildings of all sizes and descriptions were thrown together with streets running in every direction in between with no thought given to orderliness. The stock market crash of 1929 together with a depleted ore supply caused nearly every mine to close and Cobalt became a ghost town. Although Cobalt has come back to life somewhat, the skeletons of the town remain for the avid ghost town seeker. Submitted by: Henry Chenoweth
