Collins Inlet is the most northerly ghost town along Georgian Bay. It had its start in the 1870s as a small lumber camp. Not until 1886 did the community show any sign of growing into even a small community, but it did. To the sawmill was added a boarding house, a small number of homes, a store, and a school. Twice each week steamers docked at the inlet to unload mail and supplies and to bring news of the outside world. During the harsh winter months, however, only a few inhabited the community for it was completely inaccessible. Today, the site is privately owned and is open to guests who stay in the former company boarding house while they explore the ruins of Collins Inlet and fish to their hearts content.
