REMAINS: The schoolhouse is now a private home and parts of the old stores are now part of another private home. At the east end of the “village” Old Mill Road now leads to the overgrown mill site.
First settled by Irish immigrants, the town was named after a village in Ireland. To supply much needed lumber for the new arrivals, two sawmills were built. The streets contained a tavern, two general stores, a shoemaker, and a blacksmith, a church, and a schoolhouse. The mills burned in the 1880s, one of the stores lasted until 1935, the church until 1947 and the school a few years later.
