REMAINS: The weathered old Lewisham school is the only survivor in this remote ghost town together with the cemetery that contains the few grave markers, the last resting place for Lewisham’s rugged pioneers.
Unaware of the harsh conditions, the first settlers entered the township in the late 1870s. By the turn of the century, Lewisham consisted of a store, sawmill, church, school and only a few farms. But the land was harsh and the site remote and the families gradually moved away. In 1927 the post office closed followed in the 1940s by the school, which by then had only nine pupils. Lewisham is deserted and is a true ghost settlement.
