REMAINS:
Lochalsh began as a section village on the Canadian Pacific Railway. When gold fever swept the area in the 1920s, Lochalsh added a school, two stores and two hotels. It was essentially a mining town. While the mines prospered, so did the town. During World War II, many of the mines closed to allow workers to enlist. After the war, many mines did not reopen and Lochalsh became a ghost town. Tourism has helped prevent Lochalsh’s complete disappearance.
