Marlbank was one of those “cement towns” that had its beginning in 1892. Located northeast of Point Anne, it was a company town of the Rathbun Lumber Company. Its operations were enormously successful. The plant was enlarged in 1903 to keep up with demand given the building boom of the times. The town had boarding houses and homes to accommodate a population of several hundred residents. The town prospered until 1909 when the Canada Portland Cement Company controlled most of Canada’s cement plants. Some were merged and others closed. Marlbank was one of the latter. The village of Marlbank survives. The site of the cement plant, its boarding houses and other relics of the early years offer a true ghost town experience for the true ghost-towner.
