COMMENTS:
The only residents of the hamlet live in all points of the compass around the former downtown of the hamlet. It is the 3rd hamlet north of Millbridge on the Old Hastings Road where the Steenburg Lake Rd. crosses. REMAINS: Barn, old gas station, foundations |
Murphys Corner was settled by brothers James and Patrick Murphy where they started a mill town. They owned to SE corner of the downtown. A school was built in 1860 and then a church in 1870. Its sister community just 2.5 kms north was Thanet, which was the "stop over" hamlet. To the south was Glanmire. The H. Dittman pioneer log cabin stood on the NE side of the 4 corners but was demolished in 2007. Submitted by: Clayton Self | Downtown Murphys Corner.
