Begun in 1915 to remove heap roasting of nickel ores away from populated centres (Sudbury, Copper Cliff), the settlement was very extensive until the ore bridge was constructed in 1918. Prior to the rail bridge nearly 200 worlers were employed at the yards. The town site contained 2 store, a post office(1916-21, 1926-30, hall, school, proper homes and boxcar homes lined in a neat "L"shaped village, containing no less than 600 residents. After 1918, the work forc dropped to 40, and the village shrank to 150 to 200 souls. By 1930 heap roasting was banned and Inco replaced the process by utulising mechanical roasters.
