Also known as Maple Lake Station, Swords had its heyday when lumbering and tourism by train were in vogue. It once was the destination for a group of American tourists called the American Flyers. Each year they would arrive by train for a stay at the Maple Lake Hotel owned and operated by John Sword. By the 1930s, the tourist trains and lumbering both had seen better days and the population moved elsewhere. Because the area was good for farming, the farmers stayed a bit longer. The ghost town of Swords today is part of a growing community of cottages and country living. Submitted by: Henry Chenoweth
