VICTORIA MINES

NAME: Victoria Mines
COUNTY: Na
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Snow in Winter, Warm Summer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Summer
COMMENTS: Railroad Town.
REMAINS: Unknown.
Cinder roads and trails, foundations of homes that once housed 1,000 residents, and a lone two-story home are all that remain of Victoria Mines. The town had its beginning in 1906 when a nickel deposit was discovered. A smelter was built close to the just completed Canadian Pacific Railway and the town prospered for a decade. In 1930, the mine closed and the townspeople moved away. Submitted by: Henry Chenoweth
