Originaly a Hudson Bay Post counter it was first called Hunter's Lodge, where natives traded in furs. The counter closed in the 1880's,but a small native population moved in. Some whites and metis also established themselves in the community and opened a general store, and post office (1886). By the turn of the century there were 100 people at the site, and included a Catholic Mission. Presbetyrian church was erected in 1914 followed by the Catholic Church in 1915. A Catholic school was also built in 1928, where the community peaked at 150. Though the community was gradually abandoned (all services closed in the 60's) a few still resid in the ares while cottagers live nearby in the summer. The post office closed in 1970.
