3-19-99 White Pot Mine
in Death Valley, Ca Destroyed by Park Service
Excerpt from emails between David A. Wright, Great Basin
Research and Dave Brenner of the NPS.
Hi Dave,
What's the current condition of the Pfizer talc mine camp
in Warm Springs
Canyon (the "White Pot Mine")? I was last there in
December 1997 but
didn't take a close look at the camp, although on a visit in
September
1996 I found it to be rather ramshackle. The pool was clean
though, and
I found some cleaning supplies stashed nearby. I hear the pool
is
cleaned periodically by passerby and the pool drained each winter
by
volunteers. I've also heard that the Park Service may clean
up the camp.
Thanks.

I just received his reply. It goes:

Subject: PFIZER TALC MINE IN WARM SPRINGS CANYON
The pool is destined to be removed, the metal
buildings were
crushed and removed by the park service.
I have no official news on the fate....but I
just use the
past "improvements" to predict the future....

So save them pictures by Steeles and myself! That's all that
will be
left of the place before long.
