Settled about 1811 around Fort Claiborne when Federal Road was extedned southwest to St. Stevens. Once a sizable river boat town and home to notable politicians of the era. Claibrone had a population of 2500 when visited by General Marquis de LaFayette in 1825. Home still standing of US congressman James Dellet built around 1841. Home of Colonel William B. Travis of Alamo fame and town hall in which LaFayett was entertained has been relocated about 4 miles east to Perdue Hill on US Hwy 84.
