COMMENTS: This post will deal with a place in MARION COUNTY ALABAMA... I as a second grader first visited the place when in the mid 1940's our school made a class trip to PEARCES MILL... It was still in operation and the acreage was well kept with peacocks (The first I had ever seen) roaming around freely..

The JAMES PEARCE mansion was still occupied and the General Store was still in operation.. The old waterwheel mill was fully operational and it was a very memorable trip for me... It is a treasured memory...

I went back for a visit a couple of months ago... The remains of the general store had trees growing up thru them and the old mill wheels still lay in the creek... I tried to find the old mansion but could see nothing.. The thick brush and brambles were too thick..

As I walked I saw a stack of brick thru the thicket and walked closer... Lo and behold there stood the old mansion... It was obscured by thick brush and big standing timber... See the photo as it was in the 50's and 60's...

The site is located East of Hamilton, Alabama on road 253 south of Hwy 278.
REMAINS: Old abandoned mansion
