American Flag's post office was established December 28, 1880 and discontinued July 16, 1890. The American Flag mine was the first in its district to be developed extensively. Reaching a maximum population of forty, the town soon dwindled to about 15. Though the post office continued until 1890, little is known of the camp since 1884.
