COMMENTS: Doke was a mining and looging town that supported the building of the Roosevelt Dam. Located in the valley of the Pinal Mts. between Signal Peak, Pinal Pk. and Stone Cabin Mts.Little left and extremly difficult to get to due to erosion and many forest fires. There are several foundations left and many large sawdust piles. Two vehicles left covered with overburden from the years of weathering. Just the windshield frame and some roof parts.I was told about this town by some old timers that are gone now that worked forest fires in this area. It is very remote and difficult to get to. There is a sign, and that is even difficult to get to.I attempted the trip down in the spring of 1999. It was too wet, even for the good front and rear locked 4/w/dr. Toyota p/up. We tried again in Aug. and the forest was closed due to dry conditions. In Dec. we got down about two miles and ran out of road, the wash outs were thirty feet deep, had to back up half a mile to turn around. We went in to town, Globe, Miami and found a friend that thought he could find it from the other end. Getting to Stone Cabin is a job in itself. We did get to the same road according to GPS, but several miles of road could not be found.Sure would like to talk to someone that has gone through and has photos.
REMAINS: Foundations, truck frames, saw dust pile, head shaft
