Owen's post office was established April 4, 1899 and discontinued August 31, 1914. Named for "Chloride Jack" Owen, one of the co-discoverers of the McCracken mine, Owens was actually begun in 1874. Nothing is written of Owens until the post office in 1899. Mining, farming, and stock raising were the mainstays of Owens. Today, nothing is left. |
