NAME: Graniteville COUNTY: Nevada ROADS: 2WD GRID: 1 CLIMATE: Snow in winter BEST TIME TO VISIT: Poor road conditions in winter |
COMMENTS:
Graniteville is roughly 18 miles east and slightly north of Malakoff Diggins State Park. It is reached via the North Bloomfield - Graniteville Rd. The route is a gravel road. It appears the "locals" ignore the fact it is a dusty gravel route, and a "newby" may be a little intimidated and find the venture long and slow. The little community of Graniteville is just beyond the cemetery about a quarter of a mile. REMAINS: Many old structures, some still lived in. |
First mining in 1850, and the town was named Eureka South. Name changed in 1877. Population 360 in 1887. Submitted by: Kiernan McArdle |
