Merced Falls was once an industrial center for Merced County. It had flour, woolen, and lumber mills. Population peaked at 1500, mostly lumber workers. Town's peak was 1912 to 1940s when it was served by the Yosemite Valley Railroad and lumbering was at its height. The railroad folded in the 1940s and the town soon faded. Submitted by: Herb Wood
