Mining camps in the Feather River country begin with Oroville. The real flavor of old time Oroville is found in Miners Alley, flanked by the backs of early buildings that face the town's two main streets. There are also Chinese temples dating from the 1860s that can be found at 1500 Broderick Street. East of town is the historic Bidwell's Bar suspension bridge (1855) which was moved from its original site at the old town of Bidwell's Bar, now under 600 feet of water behind Oroville Dam. The state visitors center at the dam offers a superb panorama and a historic guide of the region. Submitted by Henry Chenoweth.
