Officially known as Teller, Bachelor City didn't begin to boom until the mid 1890's along with the nearby Creede development. By 1893 it was a large and busy suburb of Creede. The government would not grant the citizens the right to use the name Bachelor because there was already a town in California that had that name so the government named the city Teller. The residents refused to call it Teller so they continued to call it Bachelor although their mail said Teller. The silver panic of 1894 starte the end of Bachelor and most residents had moved down to Creede by the early 1900's. Today there are only small foundations left along with a forest service sign.
