KING

NAME: King
COUNTY: Park
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Weather and temperature vary for hour to hour
BEST TIME TO VISIT: April - September
COMMENTS:Starting in Jefferson, Colorado Take US-285 South 6.6mile take a left on CR-15 (Elkhorn road) go 1.25 miles take a right on unmarked trail then go .5 mile. Multiple trials there on. UPDATE: The unmarked road has been closed for about 2 years due to I assume a shooting range that opened up on the west side of the property. It’s not fenced off, but the road is barricaded by “Park County Sheriff” Additionally, there has been an RV parked on the site for some time now, and it’s not clear who owns it. This needs to be made clear, because whomever wants to explore it may or may not get yanked off by either police or adjacent land owners(even though maps indicate it is BLM land). Garrett Huff
REMAINS: Rock foundations, mining piles, all kinds of debris

This is the town of King where over 2oo coal miners lived. In 1885 there was an explosion that killed 35 Chinese miners and there was no attempt to recover the bodies. In 1893 there was an explosion which killed 25 Italian miners which lead to the closure of the mine as well as the town. Many of the bodies were taken to the town of Como and buried in the cemetery..
