Lincoln City once had a population of over 1500 people with two hotels and many buildings, but today has been reduced to a few foundations and a lot of gravel. Gold was found here in such a pure state that "Farncomb Hill" gold was sent to the World's Fair Exposition. It was rumored that one nugget weighed 14 pounds. Both nearby Breckenridge and Lincoln City had their heyday in the 1880's and after the gold played out, the towns dwindled.
