Originally known as Crazy Camp, Maysville was the conglomeration of two small camps located right next to each other. One named Crazy Camp and the other Maysville. When they merged, the town took on the name Crazy Camp but later changed it to Maysville. The town boasted the Maysville Chronicle with a circulation of over 1000 - the largest in the county. Maysville sat at the Eastern Junction of the Monarch toll pass from which two toll roads ran, one to Hancock and the other to Shavano. There were dance halls, large supply stores, a half dozen saloons, and much more in this town. A small fire took five buildings downtown in July of 1880 and the town pretty much died with the 1893 mineral price panic. Today there are many cabins in the area along with the original schoolhouse.
