Sherrod was built on Monumental Peak in the late 1800's and the Colorado and Southern railroad built tracks to it. Ore was hauled out for a few years but the winters were just too harsh at this townsite over 12,000 feet high so it was abandoned. There is still gold in "them thar" hills but it just isnt worth the trouble to get it out.

Sherrod Loop - Sign reads "This railroad town was named after W.H. Sherrod, successful early day mining engineer. It was the voting center for citizens living in this wide area.It supported a newspaper, hardware store and saloon. The Nathan hotel accomodated 50 guests. By 1906, Sherrod had become a ghost town."
