Manasota was the milltown that surrounded the Woodmere Lumber Mill and housed the 1500 people who worked there. The four-story Woodmere Lumber Mill was founded by Herman Klunge in 1918. This mill and it's workers provided the lumber to build the city of Venice from the thousands of acres of longleaf pine in the area. The 10 acre milltown of Manasota was destroyed by fire in 1930 and the foundation stones were incorporated into the Venice Jetties in 1937. Submitted by: Mike Woodfin
