Sherman was a sawmill town in the very early 1900's. This was during the heavy logging industry of okeechobee county during the early part of the 20th century. The mill was located at the corner of sherman road and hwy 710. There was also a huge commissary for the mill workers and a lot of homes. At the time more people lived in sherman than the town of okeechobee. The signal box on the railroad signifies that it is sherman but there is very little trace of the town anymore.
