Utopia was founded in 1897 by Clifford Clemets as a hunting retreat along the north-east shore of Lake Okeechobee. It became a fishing village with most early residents living in palmetto shacks. By 1921 it had a post office, plus a school and two-story general store, both run by Clements. The town faded away after the Hurricane of 1928. Submitted by: Jim Pike
