VICKSBURG

NAME: Vicksburg
COUNTY: Bay
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Warm florida weather
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Any time of year
COMMENTS: At one time Vicksburg was a thriving turpentine town but now all that remains is a forest watchtower. There are no current residents though there are some roads going in the surrounding woods with homes.
REMAINS: A forest service watchtower at corner of cr 388 and sr 77
Vicksburg was founded by a man whose last name was Vickers and the town was called Vickersburg until it was shortened. Once the turpentine mill closed down the town went with it. Vickburg had stores but now those are gone. The Vicksburg mill served all surrounding counties when turpentine was an important commodity during the 1800s. Submitted by: Mark pippin
