KALAWAO

NAME: Kalawao ISLAND: Molokai ROADS: 2WD CLIMATE: Nice and warm all the time. BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.

COMMENTS: On the east side of the island on Makanalua peninsula. REMAINS: Unknown.

Kalawao was a leper colony founded in 1866 but it was in less of a protected area than its neighbor Kalaupapa. So, residents soon moved to Kalaupapa and by the early 1900's, Kalawao was deserted.
