The town of Herrold currently resides in an Impact-Area in the middle of the Camp Dodge Military Reservation. Visiting Herrold, Iowa would be at the very least a felony offense. REMAINS: The grid outline of small town. |
The town of Herrold was named after Joseph Herrold and was established in 1906 as one of the stations along the Des Moines and Central Iowa Interurban Railway. Back when there was coal mining in the area, Herrold had a post office, hotel, grain elevator, blacksmith shop, railroad stockyard. The Red Cross hospital was built in 1917 (On Federal land) and was located just to the north covering 45 acres. Submitted by: BP |
