MOAR (POWDERTOWN) |
|
|
NAME: Moar (Powdertown) COUNTY: Lee ROADS: 2WD GRID: 6 CLIMATE: 4 distinct seasons - this is Iowa!!! BEST TIME TO VISIT: Fall |
COMMENTS:
Was once an explosives (blasting powder or gunpowder?) factory town. Adjacent to Chatfield County Park (lee County, Iowa). The Powderworks' complex appears to be completely fenced off and possibly still on private property. There is a small settlement of houses and a trailer park nearby, under the jurisdiction of Jackson Township, Lee County, Iowa. REMAINS: Several old buildings (abandoned) |
As I understand it, Moar was once a powder mill, in operation from the late 1800's to the mid 1900's. Also known locally as "Powdertown." Hopefully one of the local historians will come across this site and add a little more detail. I no longer live in the area and have limited access to historical records of any sort- just writing from memory... Submitted by: Bryan |
