COMMENTS:
Was located 4 miles SE of Maxwell on the east side of 112th St just north of where 164th street 'T's from the west at N41° 51.665' W93° 22.017' REMAINS: Nothing discernable. |
The town was started in 1852 by Aaron, Elkanah and Abel Pearson from Indiana who settled in sections 2 and 12 on the east side of Indian Creek. Platted in 1856 it was "done in" when the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad came through 4 miles NW. A new town, Maxwell, was established and many of Peoria City's buildings were moved to Maxwell. The Peoria Methodist Church and Cemetery are all that is left today.
