During its hey-day, Centerville had a population of around three thousand people and supported a hotel, an express office, a number of stores, several livery stables, saloons and other buildings. Today, the site is marked by loose pieces of lumber that once was the town of Centerville. About a half-mile to the west, on the old stage road leading to Placerville, are the town’s two cemeteries. The Protestant cemetery is on a hill south of the road and the Catholic cemetery is on a hill to the north. Just across Grimes Creek to the east are the remains of the old Twin Sisters Mill.
