Not much left. REMAINS: Remains of the powerplant. |
Dewey was a promising town with the prospects
of becoming the terminus for the Boise, Nampa and Owyhee Railroad.
When that failed to materialize together with the destruction
by fire of the magnificent three-story hotel, the town began
to decline. When mining began to decline, the town was finished.
Dewey was first named Booneville. In 1896, a Colonel Dewey bought
the mine and rebuilt the town including the hotel. The town was
renamed in his honor. All that is left today is the large cement
powerplant building and the mine dump behind it. Submitted by Henry Chenoweth. |
