Worth the trip. REMAINS: Some original buildings. |
Helena is worth the trip. Located at the
upper end of twenty-two mile long Kleinschmidt Grade, the visitor
will experience a breathtaking view from Kinney Point plus magnificent
scenery along the way. Once known as the Town of the Seven Devils,
Helena was renamed by a group of miners from Montana, which explains
the logic for the new name. The town was home to copper mines
called Helena, the White Monument and the Peacock, so named for
the beautiful blue coloration in the copper ore. There are several
log buildings that remain and others in various stages of decay.
