We recently visited Northfork and the river just beyond. There are old
structures to photograph and plenty of camping sites for the nature lover
on a budget. There is a beautiful lodge as well. Submitted by Carey

Located east of the Murtaugh Bridge on the north side of the Snake River.
This location was a ferry landing in the horse and wagon days. The old ferry
site can be found on the south side of the river about 1/4 mile hike along
the river. On the north side, along the small cliff face lies the foundation
of an old Chinese mine shack. Along the north side of the canyon, is a rocky
gravel bar with fine gold and garnets. The submitter of this entry has prospected
there many times in the past years and found minute amounts of gold, garnets
and an abundance of hematite and magnetite in the sands. A short hike up
the north side of the river to the east of the bridge shows sites of dredging
in bygone days.
