MARSHALL LAKE MINES

NAME: Marshall Lake Mines
COUNTY: Idaho
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 3
CLIMATE: Cool winter/snow and summer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Fall, Spring, Summer.
COMMENTS: Much to see in the area.
REMAINS: Many Original remnants.

There are many mines in the Marshall Lake District but nary a town to serve the whole area. The Golden Anchor Mine with its many buildings and schoolhouse came as close to a town without being one and served as a local headquarters. The mine opened in 1915 and operated for a number of years before closing. It was reopened in 1940. When World War II forced the closing of so many mines in 1942, the Golden Anchor closed for good. There is much to see in the Marshall Lake District and well worth the trip. However, roads in the District are rough and steep and require at least a pickup and preferably a four-wheel drive.
