NAME: Mineral City
COUNTY: Washington
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 6
CLIMATE: Cool winter/snow and summer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Fall, Spring, Summer.
COMMENTS: Take a 4WD.
REMAINS: A few buildings.
The town had its beginning in 1880 when two miners, a John James and a James Peck, discovered silver bearing ore in a remote valley that empties into the Snake River. The town never grew to boom town proportions but it did have a hotel, livery stable, a store and a few houses, but today only a few buildings remain. The site is in the southern part of the mountains by way of Fourth of July Creek. The road in is good to the summit, but down the Snake River side is four-wheel drive territory.
