NAME: Peyton's Corner COUNTY: Decatur ROADS: 2WD GRID: 9 CLIMATE: Hot summer, cold winter BEST TIME TO VISIT: Always accessible |
COMMENTS:
No visible signs of where the town sat, the land is now farm ground REMAINS: A small cemetery |
The town was inhabitted by former and/or runaway slaves before the Civil War. Very little is known about the town other than it was a stop on the underground railroad. Details about a chase involving a runaway and the town and a few details about the town are available in Harding's History of Decatur County (1915). Submitted by: Larry B |
