Appleton was founded in 1885 and nine months later had every kind of business anyone could want including a barbar shop, six grocery stores, two hotels and more. Then in 1887 the railroad came through just a mile north of Appleton and a town called Minneola was established there. The residents of Appleton quickly left and went to Minneola. Today there are 700 people at Minneola and none in Appleton. |
