NAME: Drury COUNTY: Sumner ROADS: 2WD GRID: 3 CLIMATE: Hot summer, Snow in winter BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime |
COMMENTS:Drury lies just south of US 81 about 7 miles east of Caldwell. Located right on the Chicaskia River, the most standout remnant of the town is the "dam" and I use that term loosely as it is just a 3-foot high waterfall on the river, with the stone shell of an old mill sitting at the end of it. However it is a popular recreation spot. The town itself is a very impressive ghost town, with several vacant buildings on the main street as well as an old school and tin grain elevator. REMAINS: Quite a lot for a ghost town. Several vacant business buildings, an old school with playground equipment still outside, an old tin grain elevator, an old motel by the Chicaskia River, and a few houses. |
Founded in 1882. Daniel C. Fitzgerald mentions it in his book Ghost Towns of Kansas 6. Approximately ten remaining residents. Submitted by: Matthew Leverich |
