COMMENTS: On U.S. 283 3 miles north of the state line. Semi-Ghost - current residents. REMAINS: The epitome of a ghost town, Main street with unoccupied buildings and everything!

Englewood was founded as an agricultural town in 1884. It was known as the "New Chicago" of the Great Southwest. By 1886 Englewood had three drug stores, four dry goods/grocery stores, two hotels, two lumber yards and more. Drought in the late 1890's put a damper on the town and then in 1906 a rancher donated land just north of town to give the town a boost. New buildings were built but then in 1908 a great fire burned most of it down. Today less than a hundred people remain. Englewood looks just like you see in the movies!
