Post office was stolen by cowboys from Greensburg, during a fight about which city would be the county seat. Submitted by: Paul Bettes Just wanted to let you know: Jaynesville or Janeville, Kansas was founded by my greatgreatgrandfather,Jacob Barney. It was named after his first daughter, Jane Barney. People who founded Greensburg,Kan. played poker with him and when he passed out from too much liquor, they loaded him and the post office to Greensburg and Janeville was no more. This was about 1886 and the town was only around for 6 months. In the 1980's I took my kids and we dug up artifacts, bricks, glass, etc. from the site. |
