NAME: Volland COUNTY: Wabaunsee ROADS: 2WD GRID: 3 CLIMATE: Hot summer, Snow in winter BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime |
COMMENTS:
Driving half a mile off old K-10 (the road from Alta Vista to Alma) south on Volland Road leads you to this tiny hamlet by the railroad. Only four houses remain, all on the north side (and I question the occupancy of two of them), but on the south side the most iconic remnant of this town sits just west of the road. A large 2-story red brick building, half of its roof gone, sits about 50 feet off the road, facing a street that has long since vanished and become prairie grass. A few other ruins are visible near the building. REMAINS: The large brick building, four houses, a few scattered ruins all on one road |
